It is very
important for parents to be able to teach their children how to save money. As
we live in a society of consumerism, the sooner children are taught to handle
money, the more prepared they’ll be to face the world.
The basic thing
that you have to do is to make saving money fun. Try to explain them the
concept in a way that they can easily understand it. Also, using different jars
and stickers will attract their attention and will enable them to pay attention
to what you want to do.
Set a goal. Ask
your children what they want to do with the money and put a photo of that
certain thing in the envelope or in the jar where their money is. In this way,
with each allowance, they will feel closer and closer to their goal. If they
spend a certain amount of time without spending anything, give them a little
reward to know that they’re on a good path.
Last, but not
least, you should set an example. Allow them to see that you’re also saving
money, by putting money in that jar and telling them that it’s your jar. This
will show them that it’s a normal thing to do, and they will definitely follow
your lead.
